Great college computer. Worked great for the first few weeks at home where there is AIR CONDITIONING. However, at school there is no A/C in the dorm and Gateway M-1624 Refurbished Laptop machine gets real hot, real fast. It won't cool down so it fails ungracefully after about 20 min. of GENERAL use. Eventually that corrupts Windows ... End result: we're contacting Gateway for support since we're just 1-2 days out of the CompUSA 30-day iron guarantee return window after working out over the past week that Gateway M-1624 Refurbished Laptop is a persistent H/W problem and not an experienced non-techie ''user issue''.

Bought Gateway M-1624 laptop as a birhtday gift for my fiancee, came really fast but that was the only good thing about it. Straight out the box it wouldn't boot up and when i tried to get into the bios it just froze everytime. never got to see what was on there cause it never started. The other thing was that it had a used Ultimate Boot Disc in the drive, can you believe that? Not recommended at all.

Only complaint was that the wireless didn't work out of the box, I had to uninstall and reinstall the drivers. Other than that, it runs great. Stays cool and keeps up with everything that I needed to do.

I originally bought this laptop for college. I just recieved it today and was working on customizing software on it and adjusting the settings to maximize battery life. This machine works beautifly for what I need it for. As for one of the earlier reviews, I cannot confirm any issues with overheating. I have had it in air conditioning, but I ran it for over six hours straight and so far there has been no problems. The only thing I haven't tried was overclocking it. I have no need to run games or heavy resource draining programs on it, that's what my pc is for. ;) So far, it seems great. I hope this helps everyone out there.

Received this item 3 days after Gateway M-1624 Refurbished Laptop was ordered. I havent even had this thing for more than 4 days. Seems to be high on specifications, but the battery life SUCKS. I am lucky to get a 1 hour charge doing basic e-mail and web browsing tasks. I will be testing the battery one more time, and if it gives me the same charge I will be sending it back.
