OK, the installation instructions in the book need to be updated for newbees that don't know how to explore the CD in Windows. However, the chipset is standard RealTek 8187b, so the drivers are even available through Windows Update, or from the RealTek site if you have a Mac or Linux machine. Once updated, the thing runs great, has good range, and has a lot of features for a USB wireless adapter.

I had a world of problems with TRENDnet TEW-424UB USB Wireless Network Adapter thing, until I stopped using the TrendNet Application. It worked, but I couldn't log into a network if my life depended on it. The settings were not co-operating with how I had my Linksys router setup. Here is how I finially fixed it:1) Update to XP SP3 and install all security patches, software and hardware updates2) Download the drivers from the website, but keep your CD available.3) Install TrendNet Application, say yes when told not certified by MS, then Reboot4) Plug in the USB Card, then after reboot when asked for the missing file browse to the cd driver s folder5) let windows install new hardware6) Windows allows you to configure network7) Ignore the trendnet application, but don't uninstall or you will loose your connection, and have to start all over again.

I got this one on rebate special ,at $9.99. It works well in Vista Home Basic on the machine i set up for my sister. it can get a little warm at times. it's also a bit fat ,and can block usb ports that are close together. But it is nice to have the cap right there so you don't loose it. at $9.99 TRENDnet TEW-424UB USB Wireless Network Adapter was worth the money seeing as i paid nearly $30 for my Belkin key of the same speed. So if your laptop does not have Wifi internal or you just want to loose the wire on a desktop this will work. But just make sure it's getting some good air flow too it. over all 4 star product for $9.99
