Netgear WG311 PCI Wireless Network Adapter Reviews

Not sure if Netgear WG311 PCI Wireless Network Adapter works with other operating systems, but do not -- repeat -- DO NOT buy Netgear WG311 PCI Wireless Network Adapter thing if you have Windows XP. I bought a router from Netgear, which works great. So I bought an adapter, too, which works...when it feels like it. The company says it's no big deal that it's not officially supported by Windows, but apparently that's wrong, because this thing is nothing but trouble.I'll go anywhere between a few minutes and a few days before it conks out. Sometimes resetting the card works, sometimes you have to reboot, and now it won't work at all, even though I have a very strong internet signal. The adapter is terrible, even with the updated drivers and changing PCI slots.Oh, and phone support isn't very good, either. No need to be on hold for half an hour to get ''solutions'' that I've already thought of and dug out on my own. Run far, run fast from this thing.

I purchased because of price and NAME. Installed and left it installed for (2) days then took it back out and replaced it with a D-Link. It never would maintain a signal and kept constantely dropping the connection. I will have to say that my router is close to 100' from this computer and it works great now.

Good product for the money, pretty good signal range

I bought the adapter based on a competitive price and the strength of the Netgear name. Netgear WG311 PCI Wireless Network Adapter will also be my last purchase from them. After what appeared to be a successful install, the unit would constantly drop the connection, reconnect, and then drop out again. The support page on their website revealed the need for updated drivers to work with XP SP2. OK, fine, load the new drivers - it still doesn't work. Call tech support, get the least English-fluent speaker in all of India who finally comes up with a registry change that gets it working. Nothing exceptional, just working. So the CPU sits on the floor for 2 weeks and loses its connection again. This time it isn't software, the antenna fell off the back of the card. The antenna screws onto the card via a small pressed-in threaded fitting which fell off the connector. First I had to argue with them to look up my serial # by my email address, as I gave them the serial number when I registered the card. After explaining the problem

Does have a consistent connection... also includes WPA security features. But dosnt have the signal strength to be competitive. Had a Dlink in this comp (win xp sp2) but bought a new computer so moved the Dlink into that one. Put the netgear in this one because Netgear WG311 PCI Wireless Network Adapter was on sale for 30 bucks! 2 bars only!!! and staying at 36mbps... When the Dlink was in I was getting a full 5 bars and full speed. Router is on second floor and this comp is in the basement! Im stickin with the Dlink... 510 and above all do great!
