Linksys 54Mbps Range Expander
Linksys 54Mbps Range Expander Description
Expand The Range Of Your Wireless Network!
Linksys Wireless-G Range Expander V2.0
Expand the range of your wireless network! The Linksys Wireless-G Range Expander is the easy way to increase the effective coverage of your wireless network.
Unlike adding a traditional access point to your network to expand wireless coverage, the Wireless-G Range Expander does not need to be connected to the network by a data cable. Just put it within range of your main access point or wireless router, and it "bounces" the signals out to remote wireless devices.
This "relay station" or "repeater" approach saves wiring costs and helps to build wireless infrastructure by driving signals into even those distant, reflective corners and hard-to-reach areas where wireless coverage is spotty and cabling is impractical. The Range Expander is perfect to help cover large areas in multi-story homes, warehouse environments, public spaces, wireless "Hot Spots", and outdoor venues -- anywhere you need extra coverage for your wireless network.
The Wireless-G Range Expander is compatible with the Linksys WAP54G Access Point, and both the WRT54G and WRT54GS Wireless Routers. It works with both Wireless-G and Wireless-B clients so you'll get the benefits of increased coverage, even with a mixed network.

Linksys 54Mbps Range Expander Reviews

Works like a charm for my needs. We have 5 cabins in the woods with lots of trees in between. Farthest cabin from the router had very weak signal. Took less than 10 minutes to set up using the included cd, unplugged it, moved it to last cabin, plugged it in and got both blue lights. Now 5 bars at 54 mps

The worst product out there. After hours of messing with I finally talked to customer services. After hours of talking to them, they still couldn't fix the problem.

A little on the expensive side but Linksys 54Mbps Range Expander thing works! It took me a while to set up for some reason but Linksys 54Mbps Range Expander was worth it. The 7dbi antenna from dlink did hardly anything so bought the range extender and my signal went from 0-1 bars to 5 bars (router in basement, laptop 2 floors up).

Would definitely NOT recommend. I bought three of these in 8/2007. Worked OK until recently, when all three died at almost exactly the same time. If you don't mind buying new every year, go ahead.

Works as advertised, but not very fun to setup. Expanded a 2Wire 2701 HG-D dsl modem/router network in a large metal warehouse.Don't use the installation disk (crapware).Linksys 54Mbps Range Expander will work on security enabled network, but you have to turn off the router's security before setting up, Once the expander is working with the router, then enable the security first on the expander and then on the router. Look in online forums for instructions. One problem is that you can't use an alphanumeric passcode with it, but just change passcode to all numeric and it works. You get 2 'power plates', one for mounting straight into a power outlet and the other with a length of power cord so you can wall mount the unit higher than 3 inches. My box came with a standard US plug for the outlet-mount plate, but a European plug on the plate with cord. I got Linksys to ship me a new plate, after asking for a manager. They wanted me to RMA back to tigerdirect, but I had it working already so no way!
