I had absolute hell trying to get Hiro 56K PCI FaxModem modem to work on my windows 98SE operating system but after 4 hours of frustration, countless freezes, nearly about to return it, I eventually got it to work. My connection speed went from 28.8 kbps on my old V90 modem to 36 kbps on Hiro 56K PCI FaxModem V92 modem. Dont even attempt to install this if you are short on time or dont have an afternoon to kill. The autorun file on the CD does not work for installing the drivers. I had to install everything manually from the CD by opening all of the folders and subfolders and clicking on setup icons. The instructions are on the CD in the manual folder, nothing provided on paper, and the CD instructions are pretty much useless anyway. On the modem there are two jack outlets, must plug cord into line, not into phone jack to get a dial tone, they dont tell us this either. FYI: the Hiro tech department number is NOT toll free (909) 595-8086.

Quality of dial-up connection can be affected by hardware, the phone line, and the ISP. My connection speeds had degraded recently so I bought the Hiro modem to help troubleshoot. Compared to the US Robotics modem it replaced, the dialing speed is slower, but it does connect at a slightly higher speed. Download speeds are also slightly better. For those of us stuck with dial-up, this modem is an excellent buy.

In July 2007 I removed the Vista OS out of a Dell E520, installed Windows XP and one of the components I added was this Fax/Modem. It has been reliable to the point I've taken it for granted. I would like to have kept it simple and used the Windows based fax software instead of the one supplied but this has been fine. Great product for the money!

Installed this in a freshly built PC after two modems I had laying around wouldn't work. It worked on the first try. Good modem and happy customer.
