Belkin 54Mbps Range Extender Reviews

I'm not sure If i can fairly judge Belkin 54Mbps Range Extender product because I attempted to use it with Microsoft Vista. I didn't see any documentation saying that it would not work with Vista, but when i bought it, sure enough inside the box was a slip saying that Belkin 54Mbps Range Extender product will not work with Vista but to check the Belkin site for firmware updates. None are to be found as of yet. It boosted the signal, but didn't help the actual connection at all. Though the bars were high, the connection was still constantly lost and slow. From what I hear, not many range extenders are compatible with Vista. I tried a linksys one before and that did not work either. Looks like i'll just have to pay the extra money for another modem. :-(

Vista Schmista, configure it through the web utility, and trash the cd. This is a phenomenal way to drastically increase your wifi range. Plug in via ethernet, set your ethernet adapter to the ip range of the device, go to the web interface, scan, configure security done. Add a 7.5 dbm antenna and you have great range. You can string multiple range extenders on the same network and create a huge coverage area. Buy it, and use the web interface, and you will love what it does.

I purchased two of these. Put one in AP mode and one in UR mode. Connected a wired network to each and they linked the two wired systems. Wow! Plus all of my wireless stuff works and everything has internet access. Double Wow! Wm Tomlinson

My opinion is that this product is pathetic. As mentioned in another review, this product still does not work with Vista and never will. The broadcast signal has a very small range, so if you decide to use it to extend a signal more than 25 feet, you had better buy two of them. Once in place, you will have to stand within 10 feet of the Range Extender to get an excellent signal, and it tapers off quickly from that radius out. I don't recommend this product.

I used this to repeat the siganl from a Belkin wireless router. It works but you need to know how to set it up if you have security on. The included directions do not explain this so you need to go online to the Belkin site and download the real manual. You can also use it as an access point. Overall it does what I wanted it to do (increased my range)and for a fair price as well. Get one!
