Aten - AS251S - 2-Port Compact Serial Auto Switch
The AS-251S is an a Serial Auto Switch that will operate in two computers to one printer mode, called 2 to 1 mode. These switches operate in 2 to 1 mode without software drivers and deliver print jobs to the printer on a first come, first served basis. This means that if one computer is printing to the printer the other computer must wait for the Auto Switch to finish the current print job.

The printer switch is un-usable. The ports are wrong. The switch should have three Female connectors. It has two Female and one male. If you have a printer cable, you need to plug it into a FEMALE connection and it only has a MALE connection for the printer. You can not buy Female/Female adapters for it either.

I purchased Aten -Port Compact Serial Auto Switch switch to connect two different computers to a single DeskJet printer. I did not read the description carefully. Aten -Port Compact Serial Auto Switch switch is for SERIAL devices including SERIAL Printers and other essoteric devices.If you wish to connect to any modern printer, this is NOT the switch for you. You need to buy the A240-1288 which is for PARALLEL Printers.I hope this keeps someone from buying the wrong one, like I did.
