Check ACER's website to be sure if they support Acer Aspire 5920-6954 Laptop--you'll need it!, April 22, 2008
By Alesia - Within about three months of purchase, the disc drive on my ACER (similar model, no longer available, purchased at Sears in 9/2007) stopped working, the Vista software no longer prompted me for passwords and shut out the Administrator, and tried to format any device plugged in via USB cable )whether software was installed or not), and within 4 months started running VERY slowly (we're talking at the same speed as my old 128MB RAM Compaq). By the time the computer was 5 months old, it refused to acknowldeg that any backup had been made of the C drive and would not allow disc defragmentation in any mode.
Acer Aspire 5920-6954 Laptop was also very frustrating having it surrpetitiously decide to change wireless networks I was regularly dropped and reconnected to nonfunctioning networks.
When I tried contacting the company for help, all I got were canned replies. It probably didn't help that the serial number on the bottom of the computer is printed in such as way that it wears out quickly since I couldn't provide them with that, ACER wouldnt even sell me a reboot disc (yep, that's right: You get no safety nets or backup software with Acer Aspire 5920-6954 brand!).
Bottom line: You really can't do much worse than ACER!
Great Computer at a Good Price, May 30, 2008
By Wolfgang (Virginia United States) - I have owned an Acer laptop for 5 years and never had any problems. There is a series of Acer 5920 laptops covering a wide price range and I have had one for several months. I find it to be a superb computer for my purposes at a good price. The biggest difference between computers in this series is the computing chip used. Although completely satisfactory for most purposes, this particular model is probably a bit slow for gamers. Also the Vista operating system is a memory hog so upgrading to 3 or 4 gigabytes is a good idea. Be sure to register your new computer (of whatever brand) with the manufacturer and keep good hard copy records in case you need support. For what it is worth the 5920 was designed for Acer by BMW. My technical level - very high.
